Wife of Bangladeshi living in Spain stabbed to death in Jashore

A 48-year-old woman was stabbed to death allegedly by miscreants at Nauali village in Jhikargacha upazila of Jashore district early Sunday. 

 The deceased was identified as Ferdousi Khatun, wife of Altab Hossain, a Bangladeshi expatriate in Spain of the village. 

 Quoting local people, Kamal Hossain Bhuiya, officer-in-charge of Jhikargacha Police Station, said miscreants swooped into the house after cutting the grill of the windowpane of the kitchen room and stabbed Ferdousi indiscriminately, leaving her dead. 

Jannati Khatun, daughter of Ferdousi was also injured as the miscreants also stabbed her. 

Later, Jannati informed the matter to her paternal uncle who found Ferdousi dead. 

However, it is not clear whether the miscreants entered the house in a bid to steal valuables and killed the woman. 

Police are investigating to unearth the reason behind the death, said OC.     —UNB

President urges members of BD Red Crescent Society to perform duties more sincerely
President Mohammed Shahabuddin on Sunday called upon the members of Bangladesh Red Crescent Society to perform their duties more actively and sincerely for the sake of humanity. 

 The President made this call when the newly elected committee members of the society headed by its chairman Professor Dr Ubaidul Kabir Chowdhury met the President at Bangabhaban today. 

 During the meeting, the Chairman informed the President about the overall activities of Bangladesh Red Crescent Society. 

 He also highlighted the progress of various ongoing projects of the society. 

 President Shahabuddin said that the role of Bangladesh Red Crescent Society is very important during various crises including natural disasters. 

 Appreciating the role of the society in socio-economic development since independence, he said that the volunteers of the society should be more active in dealing with any disaster. 

 The President cited his own experience of serving as General Secretary of the then Pabna District Red Cross from 1972 to 1975. 

 The president aslo asked them to strengthen coordination with the relevant departments, ministries and institutions in implementing the project of Red Crescent Society. 

 Secretaries to the Presidents office were present during the meeting.    —UNB
