Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) leaders and workers gathered at the Dhaka University campus on Tuesday to hold a rally countering the programme of the anti-quota students demanding reformation in the quota system in public services.
Wearing helmets, BCL men equipped with sticks took position at different points on the campus.
Hundreds of BCL activists of Dhaka city college were brought there by buses, campus sources said. They were chanting slogans against the quota protesters.
Besides, the BCL men took position in front of the gates of different halls of residence to bar students intending to join the programme of quota reform activists.
On Monday night, demonstrators announced to hold rallies on campuses across the country Tuesday afternoon, protesting the BCL attacks on them, demanding withdrawal of the prime minister's remarks what they said belittled them, and reformation in the quota system in government jobs.
A tense situation is prevailing on the campus following the gatherings of BCL men and quota protesters.
