Anti-quota movement: DU Bijoy Ekattor Hall BCL leader resigns

More than 100 leaders and workers of the Dhaka University (DU) unit of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), the student wing of ruling Awami League, on Tuesday (July 16) resigned in protest against the BCL attacks on students protesting the quotas in government services.

The resigning leaders and workers said the student organization which launched barbaric attacks on general students and swooped on female students brutally, they are mentally sick. "It's not appropriate to keep relation with them."

Former leaders and workers of BCL have uploaded posts on their Facebook over the matter.

Expressing solidarity with the quota reform movement, DU Bijoy Ekattor Hall unit of Chhatra League vice-president Shipon Mia who resigned from his post, has written on his post that "I stand with the ongoing student movement. I am a student who was show caused for taking stand in favour of justice. I'm Nazrul throughout of my life. Protest is in my blood. I'm always a protesting man.  I'm Md Shipon Mia, vice-president of Bijoy Ekattor Chhatra Hall League, Dhaka University. Extending full support to the ongoing rational student movement, I have voluntarily resigned from my post. Injustice and Shipon don't stay on same path."
