The Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting on Tuesday suggested Bangladesh Television (BTV) to broadcast quality programmes in order to survive in the competitive market.

The committee of the 12th parliament made the recommendation at its fourth meeting held at the Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Bhaban.

Committee Chairman Kazi Keramat Ali chaired the meeting while Ali Azam, Abul Kalam Md Ahsanul Haque Chowdhury, Md Afzal Hossain, Abdus Salam and Farida Yasmin attended it.

The committee also suggested presenting a comparative picture of advertisement rates between BTV and other private channels in the next meeting.

The parliamentary watchdog also recommended presenting BTVs proposals submitted to the Ministry of Finance after scrutiny in the following meeting.

In the meeting, a report was presented to the committee regarding the district correspondents of BTV and instructions were given to change the correspondents of Sylhet, Chuadanga and Chandpur districts.

A detailed review of the ongoing activities of the Bangladesh Film Archive was held in the meeting.

The committee suggested for permanent preservation of all types of documents centring the Liberation War of Bangladesh and the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.    —BSS
