Holy Ashura today

The holy Ashura, commemorating the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hossain Ibn Ali (RA), the grandson of Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him), is being observed across the country on Wednesday (July 7) with due religious solemnity.

The Wednesday (July 17) is the 10th day of the month of Muharram in Hijri calendar-1446. This day is well-known as the "Holy Ashura".

The day is a public holiday.

Several hundreds of people of Shia Muslim community brought out the Tazia processions from Imambara Husaini Dalan in Old Dhaka and paraded several city streets and it was supposed to end at Khikhet.

Different religious organisations are holding various programmes on the occasion.

Besides, law enforcement agencies have taken special security measures in the capital on the occasion.

Adequate security measures have been taken around Imambara Husaini Dalan to ensure seamless observation of Holy Ashura.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh Betar, Bangladesh Television and private TV channels are airing special programmes highlighting the significance of the day.
