1,117 arrested in city, 883 from 20 districts in 4 days: DMP

Law enforcers have arrested around 2,000 people across the country including from Dhaka city over the last four days in connection with the recent incidents of violence.  

Of them, 1,117 were held in the capital and the rest from 20 districts. Some opposition leaders have been arrested over days of clashes in the Dhaka sparked by protests against job quotas, police said. 

Members of DMP have been conducting block raids since Sunday to arrest suspects who were involved with recent violence.
Around 61 cases were filed with different police stations under DMP and Dhaka districts in last few days accusing 20,000 unidentified people of resorting to violence. "At least 1,117 people have been arrested in the last six days of the violence," according to DMP. 

Police said 800 people were arrested in 20 districts over the last four days. They are accused on 48 cases filed over the violence. Of them, 98 were held in Chattogram, 70 in Dhaka disctict, 40 in Sylhet,  15 in Patuakhali, 130 in Narayanganj,  50 in Kushtia,  104 in Tangail,  60 in Khulna, 97 in Rangpur, 25 in Jamalpur,  35 in Mymensingh, 11 in Prrojpur, 47 in Pabna, 46 in Madaripur, 44 in Kishoreganj and Netrokona. 

A total of 20 cases were filed with six police stations of Chottogram city and district in the last saven days accused 30,000 named and unnamed people of resorting to violence. 

The detainees included the BNPs third-most senior leader Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury and its spokesman Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed, BNP Vice Chairman Zahiruddin Swapan from Gulshan and Juba Dal leader Sabbir Ahmed Dipu from Mohakhali on Sunday night and BNPs Dhaka South City unit Convener Rafiqul Alam Majnu was arrested from near BNPs Naya Paltan central office around 5:30pm on Monday, according to sources.  A former national football captain turned senior BNP figure, Aminul Huq, was also held, he added. 

Dhaka courts till Tuesday sent around 1,000 BNP, Jamaat men to jail in several sabotage cases filed with different police stations in the city, according to court sources. Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested 176 people across the country over the last four days in connection with recent violence.

Mia Golam Parwar, the General Secretary of, Jamaat-e-Islami, was also arrested, according to police. At least three policemen had been killed during the unrest in the capital and about 1,000 injured, at least 60 of them critically, according to police sources. 

Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) sources said, "At least 2,000 BNP leaders and activists were arrested in the past few days across the country including Dhaka city. 

Around 150 people were killed including journalists, several policemen and several thousand were injured across the country including Dhaka in clashes in eight days.
