A weeklong tree plantation campaign and tree fair was inaugurated on the premises of the Rangamati Pourashava in Rangamati district on Thursday.
On the occasion, a colorful rally was brought out which paraded the important streets and ended coming on the premises of the Rangamati Pourashava in the morning.
Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Ministry of Environment Forest and Climate Change Dipankar Talukder, MP, inaugurated the fair and tree plantation campaign as the chief guest, organised by District Administration and Forest Department of the district.
On the occasion, a discussion was held which presided over Deputy Commissioner (DC) Mohammad Mosharraf Hossain Khan.
Chairman of Rangamati Hill District Council Aung Sui Pru Chowdhury, Rangamati Region Forest Conservator Mohammad Mizanur Rahman, Superintendent of Police Mir Abu Tauhid, Municipal Mayor Md. Akbar Hossain Chowdhury, Civil Surgeon Dr. Nuyen Khisa, among others, were present.
Later, tree saplings were distributed among the students of various educational institutions and the invited guests planted saplings of various kinds of tree on the municipality premises.
A total of 12 stalls of different government departments and non-government organisations have been set up on the fair premises.
