4 electrocuted in Pabna, Narsingdi

Four people were electrocuted in separate incidents in two districts - Pabna and Narsingdi, recently.
 
PABNA: Two siblings were electrocuted in Atgharia Upazila of the district.

The incident took place in Kenai Village under the upazila at around 9 am on July 17 last.

The deceased were identified as Farzana Yasmin, 19, and Russell, 14, children of Zahidul Islam Hero of Noorjahan Village under Atgharia Upazila in the district. 

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Atgharia Police Station (PS) Aminul Islam said that Farzana was working at her father's power loom at around 9 am. At one stage, she came in contact with live electricity there. Her younger brother Russell came forward to rescue her, but also got electrocuted.

Both of them died on the spot.

Necessary steps would be taken in this connection, the OC added.

RAIPURA, NARSINGDI: Two workers were electrocuted and five others injured while installing new utility pole for Palli Bidyut in Raipura Upazila of the district recently.

The deceased were identified as Abdus Salam, 29, hailed from Dangapara of Dinajpur, and Jamal Hossain, 50, from Mithapukur of Rangpur.

The injured persons are: Jewel, 26, Ahad Mia, 41, Yusuf Ali, 19, Kaiyum, 18, and Kayes. All of them were employed by contractor Sujan Mia.

It was known that a group of seven electricians working under Sujan Mia was replacing wooden poles with cement ones in Ashrabpur area in the afternoon of July 16 last.

After installing the new poles, the power line was reconnected. However, the workers were electrocuted through an earthling line via water at the base of the poles, which left two died on the spot and five others injured.

The injured were taken to Raipura Upazila Health Complex first, and then, transferred to Narsingdi Sadar Hospital for further treatment.

Deputy General Manager of Raipura Palli Bidyut Rezaul Karim said the incident occurred due to negligence of the contractor. 

Raipura PS OC Safayet Hossain Palash confirmed the incident, adding that the bodies of the deceased were recovered and sent to Narsingdi Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsies.
