Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested a member of banned militant outfit Ansar Al Islam, who escaped from Narsingdi District Jail, in Narayanganj on Wednesday night.

The arrested militant member is Md Faruque Ahmed, 43, a resident of Nuralapur in Madhabdi of Narsingdi.
RAB arrested him from one of his relatives house in Premerbazar area under Sonargaon upazila in the district.

Tanvir Mahmud Pasha, Commanding Officer of RAB-11, informed this in a press conference held at its headquarters on Thursday afternoon. RAB earlier arrested Faruque on March 24, 2022, for his involvement in militant acts. Since then, he was confined at Narsingdi District Jail, he added.

Tanvir Mahmud said thousands of people broke into the prison during the recent quota reform movement.

At that time, 826 prisoners, including nine militants, fled.

Two female militants who escaped from Narsingdi District Jail during the attack and vandalism by miscreants were arrested by Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) Unit.

The CTTC arrested two female militants Ishrat Jahan Mou and Khadija Parveen Meghla. The CTTC informed journalists about their arrest on Wednesday. Meanwhile, 201, out of 826 escaped inmates, have been arrested and surrendered so far. They will be sent to jail again through court, police said.

Meanwhile, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal visited the spot on Tuesday. During the visit, he alleged that the attack was carried out to destabilise the country apart from disrupting the development activities.

Meanwhile, the Home Ministry has suspended Narsingdi District Jail Super and Jailer from their posts due to the negligence of duties. The suspended two officials are District Jail Super Abul Kalam Azad and Jailer Kamrul Islam.
