Four murdered in Barishal, Jhenidah, Bandarban

Four people were murdered in separate incidents in three districts - Barishal, Jhenidah and Bandarban, on Wednesday.

BARISHAL: A local leader of Swechchhasebak League was hacked to death by his rivals in Hizla Upazila of the district on Wednesday night over previous enmity.

The deceased was identified as Sufian Sardar, 32, son of Jamal Sardar. He was the vice-president of the union unit of Swechchhasebak League.

Family members of the deceased said that Sufian along with his two friends was returning home at around 10pm on Wednesday. On the way, the rivals attacked them and hacked Sufian indiscriminately, leaving him critically injured. 

Locals then rescued Sufian and took him to Hizla Upazila Health Complex. As his physical condition deteriorated there, he was later referred to Barishal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital (SBMCH). He died on the way to the SBMCH.

Being informed, police recovered the body. 

However, the law enforcers have detained a person in connection with the murder.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Hizla Police Station (PS) Jubair Ahmed confirmed the incident, adding that a murder case was filed with the PS in this regard and the law enforcers are trying to arrest those involved in the killing.

JHENIDAH: A college student was hacked to death by his rivals in Shailkupa Upazila of the district on Wednesday over establishing supremacy. 

The incident took place in Kashinathpur Village of the upazila in the afternoon.  

The deceased was identified as Rana Hamid, 23, son of Saiful Islam, a resident of the aforesaid area.

Local sources said that a group of miscreants chased Rana while he was returning home from Langolbar Bazar in the afternoon.

At that time, he took shelter in a house of the village. But, the miscreants broke into the room and hacked Rana indiscriminately, leaving him critically injured.

He was then rescued by locals and taken to Shailkupa Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor referred him to Faridpur Medical College Hospital following the deterioration of his condition.

Later on, he succumbed to his injuries on the way to Faridpur.

Being informed, police recovered the body and sent it to Jhenidah Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy.

Shailkupa PS OC Md Shafiqul Islam confirmed the incident, adding that efforts are going on to arrest those involved in the killing.

BANDARBAN: Two members of armed separatist group Kuki-Chin National Front (KNF) were killed in a drive conducted by the joint forces in the district on Wednesday morning.

The identities of the deceased could not be known immediately.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the joint forces conducted a drive at Saikat Para in Ruma Upazila of the district in the morning. 

During the drive, two KNF members were killed, said the ISPR. Some arms, ammunition and other materials were also recovered from their possession.
