At least 31 socio-cultural organisations on Friday held a rally in protest against the killings and assault during countrywide Quota Reform Movement and demanded probe into the incidents under the United Nations (UN).
Under the banner of 'Protesting Cultural and Social Organisations', they organised the rally in front of the Jatiya Press Club at 11:00am.
Speakers at the rally expressed distrust in the judicial probe commission formed by the government.
Chief Executive of Bangladesh Environment Lawyers Association, Syeda Rizwana Hasan, said, "We witnessed the 'Joj Miah' drama during the previous judicial probe. Therefore, we want a fair and impartial investigations under the UN."
Rizwana condemned the health system of the country as many hospitals refused to treat people sustaining injuries in violence over the student movement.
She also demanded the resignation of the ministers responsible for the killings, an end to dirty politics on campuses and immediate reopening of educational institutions.
Dhaka University Prof Samina Lutfa said the country was now under autocratic rule.
Demanding justice for the victims, Prof Samina said the government must take responsibility for the killings over Quota Reform Movement.
Daily Samakal Advisory Editor Abu Sayeed Khan slammed the government for not showing regret over using force to suppress the movement, resulting in numerous deaths.
BLAST Honorary Executive Director Advocate Sara Hossain said it seems the government is more concerned about property than lives.
Following the rally, a procession was brought out singing songs in chorus that concluded at Purana Paltan in the city.
