Bangladesh women's national football team won the two-match friendly series against Bhutan 2-0 following a 4-2 win over Bhutan in the last match at the Changlimithang Stadium in Thimphu, Bhutan on Saturday.

The women in red and greens played the series as part of their preparation for the upcoming SAFF Women's Championship 2024 to be played in the Nepalese capital Kathmandu from 17 to 30 October this year.

In the first match of the two-match series, Bangladesh came from behind a goal to win the match by 5-1 on Wednesday.

In the second match on Saturday, Bhutan took the lead in the 13th minute of the match. Bangladesh defenders were left stunned as the host skipper as well as midfielder Pema Choden Tshering received a long pass in the midfield and swiftly carried the ball up on the right wing before sending the ball to striker Deki Lhazom who nicely placed the ball home.

The Bangladesh fans who thought it was Okay to digest one at the beginning and then score a few in the end to equalise and win were upset to see their favourite team digest another one in the next eight minutes. It was striker Deki who found the net for the second time following a quick delivery of her fellow midfielder Sunita Rai.

Bangladesh women tried heart and soul for the next few minutes to restore the parity and ultimately succeeded in going for the breather with a 2-2 tie.

Bangladesh reduced the margin in the 35th minute with skipper Sabina Khatun converting a long cross of defender Masura Parvin. The margin became equal four minutes later when striker Sagorika received the ball from striker Matsushima Sumaya and fired that over the custodian to rock the net.

Midfielder Ritu Porna Chakma who only replaced striker Sanjida Akter in the 61st minute put the team ahead a few seconds later.

Bangladesh found the fourth and last goal in the 85th minute. Following a corner shot, substitute midfielder Maria Manda passed the ball to nearby Ritu Porna who did not miss the post. Bangladesh left the ground after winning the match and the series.

Whether Bangladesh won the match or lost, it was enough frustrating for the fans to see a team like Bhutan breaching their defence line quite a few times and finding the net twice.

It was a moral defeat in a way and showed a lack of team spirit and skills. Over the months, Bhutan had clearly improved themselves after the last SAFF Women's Championship.

There are two months at hand before the next SAFF tournament and hopefully Bangladesh will solve the issues by then.
