BTV, MRT Vandalism Cases

Annie on 7-day remand, Swapan, Ashim for varying days

Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annie, Publicity Secretary of  BNP, and two activists  Golam Dastagir Prince and ABM Khalid Hasan were placed on  a seven-day remand each in a case filed over vandalizing and setting fire  to the Bangladesh Television (BTV) headquarters in Dhaka's Rampura on July 18.

The same court sent five BNP activists to jail in the same case.

Those who were sent to jail are Mahbubul Alam, Mojibor Rahman, Mohammad Hasan, Maidul Islam and Belayet Chowdhury.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Shanta Akhter passed the order after Mohammad Yasin Shikder, an Inspector of the Detective Branch (DB) of Police and also the Investigation Officer of the case, produced them before the court with a 10-day remand prayer.

On the other hand on Saturday five people, including BNP media cell convener Zahir Uddin Swapan and its Assistant International Affairs Secretary Barrister Nasir Uddin Ahmed Ashim were placed on different terms of remand in connection with a case filed over the vandalism of the Mirpur-10 Metro Station on July 19.

Three others are Jamaat leaders Dr Samiul Alam, Maulana Mahmudur Rahman and Sohag Howlader. Nasir was placed on a three-day remand while Zahir and Samiul were placed on a five-day remand each in the case.

In Annie's case in the remand prayer, the IO said Annie and two others along with other fugitive accused were involved with the incidents and they need to be remanded to find others responsible for committing such offences.
