Road mishaps claim four lives in three districts

Four people including a minor child and a woman were killed in separate road accidents in three districts - Natore, Rangpur and Meherpur, on Saturday and Sunday.

GURUDASPUR, NATORE: A man was killed after being hit by a truck in Gurudaspur Upazila of the district on Sunday morning.

The accident took place in Noyabazar area on the Bonpara-Hatikumrul highway of the upazila at around 7 am.

The deceased was identified as Shahadat Hossain, 60, son of late Mojibar Rahman, a resident of Koigati Charpara Village under Ullapara Upazila in Sirajganj District. He was a garlic trader by profession.

It was known that Shahadat along with his younger brother Hashem Ali, 55, came to Noyabazar area in Gurudaspur Upazila in the morning to buy garlic. At one stage, a Rajshahi-bound truck from Sirajganj hit Shahadat while he was crossing the Bonpara-Hatikumrul highway in the area at around 7 am, which left him dead on the spot.

Being informed, police recovered the body and handed it over to the deceased's family members without an autopsy as per their request.

However, the law enforcers could not be able to arrest the truck driver and his helper as they managed to flee the scene along with their vehicle soon after the accident.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of the Highway Police Station (PS) Md Alimul Al Raji confirmed the incident, adding that the law enforcers are trying to seize the killer truck and detain its driver and his assistance.

RANGPUR: A man and his two-and-a-half-year-old child were killed in a collision between a bus and truck in Pirganj Upazila of the district on Saturday. 

At least 10 passengers of the bus were also injured at that time.

The accident took place on the Rangpur-Dhaka highway in Bishmail area of the upazila at around 11:30 am. 

The deceased were identified as Faruque Hossain, 36, and his child Ishrat, residents of Kamalsindhur area under Hatibandha Upazila in Lalmonirhat District.

The injured were first taken to Pirganj Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty physicians referred three of them to Rangpur Medical College Hospital due to their critical condition.

Quoting locals, Bardarga Highway Police Outpost In-Charge Solaiman Sheikh said the tragic accident occurred when a Dhaka-bound passenger-laden bus collided head-on with a Rangpur-bound truck in Bishmail area. Two passengers of the bus died on the spot and at ten others sustained injuries at that time.

Being informed, police recovered the bodies of the deceased.

However, filing of a case is underway with the PS concerned and necessary steps would be taken in this regard, the police official added.

MEHERPUR: A woman was killed in a road accident in Gangni Upazila of the district on Saturday morning. 
The accident took place on the Meherpur-Kushtia road in Chocktola area under the upazila at around 9:30 am.

The deceased was identified as Nisaran Khatun, 55, resident of Kastdah Village in the upazila.
It was known that a Kushtia-bound Lata Hamba (locally made engine-run vehicle) hit Nisaran Khatun in Chocktola area in the morning while she was crossing the Meherpur-Kushtia road, which left her dead on the spot. 

Being informed, police recovered the body.
However, the law enforcers have seized the vehicle from the scene.

Gangni PS OC Tajul Islam confirmed the incident, adding that legal action would be taken in this connection.
