A Dhaka court has placed BNP Chairperson's Special Assistant Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas and six others on a four-day remand in a case filed over vandalism and arson attack at the Bangladesh Television (BTV) headquarters at Rampura on July 18.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Rashidul Alam passed the order on Monday after the Detective Branch (DB) of police produced them before the court and pleaded for seven-day remand.
Six other accused are ---- BNP Treasurer M Rashiduzzaman Millat, its Dhaka metropolitan south unit Convener Rafiqul Alam Majnu, Dhaka metropolitan north unit Convener Saiful Alam Nirab, 12-Party Alliance Coordinator Syed Ehsanul Huda, Mohiuddin Hridoy, and Tariqul Islam.
Earlier, they were remanded in another case filed over the violence centring the Quota Reform Movement.
The accused have been shown arrested afresh in this case as well and DB police Inspector Yasin Shikder, also the investigating officer, sought seven days remand.
On 18 July, three to four thousand unruly people rammed the gate of BTV and vandalized many vehicles, rooms, and machinery and set those on fire during The Quota Reform Movement.
BTV General Manager (Dhaka centre) Mahafuza Akter filed the case with Rampura police station on July 19.
