At least 15 students were injured in an attack reportedly by the activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League at Barishal University on Monday afternoon.
Eight injured have been admitted to Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital.
Sujay Shuvo, coordinator of the quota reform movement at Barishal University, said they were holding a meeting with 20 to 30 students on their ongoing protest. At that time, under the leadership of university Chhatra League leader AK Arafat, 20 to 30 BCL activists attacked them with sticks, rods, and pipes.
He claimed that they identified Chhatra League members Mahmudul Hasan Tamal, Al Samad Shanto, Khaled Hasan, Shahriar, Sabbir, Saif, Shariful Islam, Rakibul Islam. As they were leaving the campus after the attack, they launched a second attack, injuring at least 15 students.
Abdur Rahman Mukul, officer-in-charge of Bandar Police Station, said the student meeting was in its final stages. At that time, another group of students entered the university through the gate.
There was a scuffle between the two groups. But they could not say were they from Chhatra League or not.
AK Arafat, university Chhatra League leader, accused in the attack, could not be reached on his mobile.
