Two drown in Kurigram, Jhenidah

A minor child and a teenage boy drowned in separate incidents in two districts - Kurigram and Jhenidah, in two days.

RAJARHAT, KURIGRAM: A minor child drowned in a ditch in Rajarhat Upazila of the district on Saturday noon. 

The incident took place in Chaknakkati Village under Chakirpasha Union of the upazila at around 12:30 pm.

The deceased was identified as Jihad, 5, son of Raju Mia, a resident of the area. 

Police and local sources said Jihad fell in a ditch behind the house at noon while he was playing beside it.

Later on, the family members saw his body floating on the water and recovered it from the ditch. 

Being informed, police visited the scene and gave permission to the family members for burying the body. 

Chakirpasha Union Parishad Chairman Abdus Salam confirmed the incident.

JHENIDAH: A teenage boy drowned in a pond in Harinakunda Upazila of the district on Friday afternoon.

The deceased was identified as Siam Hossain, 14, son of Shamim Hossain of Parkhiddah Village. He was a student of a local madrasa. 

Superintendent of the madrasa Md Saiful Islam said Siam went to the pond to take bathe along with his classmates on Friday afternoon, but did not return. 

Sensing the matter, the authorities concerned conducted rescue operations but failed to locate him.

Later on, his body was found floating on the water on Saturday morning, the madrasa superintend added.

Officer-in-Charge of Harinakunda Police Station Md Ziaur Rahman confirmed the incident, adding that an unnatural death case was filed in this regard.
