Urgent measures needed to prevent dengue outbreaks

Dengue, transmitted by Aedes mosquitoes, has transitioned from a seasonal issue to a year-round concern, affecting over 100 countries globally. Recent data reveals a significant rise in dengue cases, with 272 new hospital admissions in just one day and over 5,700 cases reported this year alone. Last year saw an alarming number of 321,179 cases and 1,705 deaths, marking the highest death toll from dengue in our country's history.

To combat this, it is crucial that we intensify efforts to reduce mosquito breeding sites by eliminating stagnant water in containers, gutters, and other receptacles. Additionally, public awareness campaigns should promote the use of mosquito nets, repellents, and appropriate clothing. Regular indoor spraying and community clean-up drives can further help in curbing mosquito populations. Your support in implementing and spreading these preventive measures is essential. Together, we can mitigate the impact of dengue and protect our communities.
