Singer Jewel passes away

Renowned singer, producer and popular television programme host Hassan Abidur Reja Jewel passed away at a hospital in Dhaka on Tuesday morning. He was 56.

Jewel breathed his last at about 11:53am, family sources said.

On July 23, he suddenly complained respiratory problem and was taken to the private hospital. He had been on life support from that night.

The namaz-e-janaza for the singer will be held at Gulshan Azad Mosque after Asr prayers today, the family said.

Jewel was diagnosed with liver cancer in 2011, which later spread to his lungs and bones. His first album, 'Kuashar Prahar,' was released in 1993 and became an instant hit.
