Students protesting against violence, oppression, and the killing of fellow students during anti-discrimination movements faced police resistance in Panchagarh on Tuesday.
During the protest, the law enforcers also detained four students from the spot.
The protest march, led by Fazle Rabbi, the district coordinator of the anti-discrimination student movement, started from the courtyard of Panchagarh Sadar Hospital on Tentulia Road in the district town. A police team, already stationed in the area, intercepted the march. The students then held a brief rally before concluding their program.
During the rally, Fazle Rabbi said, "Over a thousand students have been killed nationwide for participating in the quota reform movement. Our army and BGB are meant to protect the country, but they are being used against the general students."
He also announced that they will continue the movement despite any obstacles until their nine demands are met, adding, "Students have shed blood for the country many times. Intimidation won't work for them."
Regarding the arrests, Panchagarh Sadar Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Pradeep Kumar Roy said, "If the detainees are not found to be involved in any subversive activities during questioning, they will be released."
