National Fisheries Week begins in districts

The National Fisheries Week began on Wednesday across the country in a befitting manner.

This year's theme of the Week is - "Varbo Machhe Moder Desh, Garbo Smart Bangladesh." 

To mark the Week, different programmes were organized in districts including Bogura, Joypurhat, Narayanganj, Panchagarh and Rangamati. 

BOGURA: On this occasion, District Fisheries Department organized different programmes in the town.

A colourful rally was brought out from the deputy commissioner's (DC) office at around 10:30 am and circled the main roads of the town.

After the rally, a discussion meeting was held at the Zilla Parishad auditorium.

Ragebul Ahsan Ripu, MP, from Bogura-6 Constituency, was present as the chief guest while DC Md Saiful Islam presided over the meeting.

Sadar Upazila Parishad Chairman Subhashish Poddar Liton and Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Feroza Parveen spoke as special guests at the programme while District Fisheries Officer Kalipad Roy delivered the welcome speech.

The speakers at the discussion said, "We are self-sufficient in fish production. However, the fish farmers should focus on the production of our indigenous species of fish. Without it native fish will become extinct."

At the end of the discussion, two fish farmers were awarded. 

Later on, the DC released local fish in the Zilla Parishad pond.

JOYPURHAT: The Fisheries Week began in the district like elsewhere of the country.

A colourful rally was brought out in the morning, which paraded the main streets of the town.

Later on, a discussion meeting was held in the conference room of the DC office.

Joypurhat DC Salehin Tanvir Gazi presided over the meeting. 

Newly promoted Superintend of Police (SP) KMA Mamun Khan Chishty, District Fisheries Officer GM Selim, District Livestock Officer Mahir Uddin, Deputy Executive Director of Jacks Foundation Abul Bashar, District Awami League (AL) President Arifur Rahman Rocket, and its General Secretary (GS) Jakir Hossain Mandal, among others, also spoke at the programme.

NARAYANGANJ: In this connection, the district administration and District Fisheries Department jointly brought out a rally from the DC office premises in the morning. 

The rally ended at the same place after parading the main streets of the town. 

Later on, a discussion meeting was held in the conference room of the DC office.

Narayanganj DC Md Mahmudul Haque was present as the chief guest while District Fisheries Officer Dr Fazlul Kabir presided over the meeting.

Additional DC (ADC) (General) Sakib Al Rabbi, District Livestock Officer Dr Muhammad Faruq Ahmed, Senior Assistant Director of District Fisheries Department SM Ashiqur Rahman, and Sadar Upazila Senior Fisheries Officer Tasmia Tasnim, among others, were also present at that time. 

PANCHAGARH: On this occasion, a colourful rally was brought out from the DC office premises in the morning.

The district administration and District Fisheries Department jointly organized the rally that ended at the same place after parading the main streets of the town.

Rezia Islam, MP, from Reserved Constituency, then inaugurated the Week by blowing colourful balloons there.

Later on, a discussion meeting was held in the conference room of the DC office.

Rezia Islam, MP, was present as the chief guest while ADC Abu Saeed presided over the meeting.

Additional SP (ASP) SM Shafiqul Islam attended the programme as the special guest.

District Fisheries Officer KM Abdul Halim delivered the welcome speech on the occasion.
 
Sadar Upazila Parishad Chairman AS Shahsenwa Pradhan Shubo, Sadar Upazila Senior Fisheries Officer Fazal Ibn Kawshar Ali, District AL Vice-President Freedom Fighter ATM Sarwar Hossain, District Matshajibi League GS Matiar Rahman, Fisherman Narayan Chandra Jha and Journalist Shahidul Islam Shahid, among others, also spoke there.

The programme was moderated by Zilla Parishad Member Aktarun Nahar Saki.

Besides, prizes were given to the best three fish farmers for their outstanding contribution in the fisheries sector. Later on, the guests released 50 kg of fish fries of different varieties in the Sadar Upazila Parishad pond.

Other programmes included a panel discussion on sustainable and optimal use of fisheries resources with the participation of stakeholders, water chemical quality testing of ponds, screening of documentaries on the achievements of the current government in the fisheries sector, workshops on sustainable development of the fisheries sector as a major source of safe animal meat, and distribution of necessary materials. 

RANGAMATI: To mark the Day, the Zilla Parishad and District Fisheries Department jointly organized a discussion in the town.

The meeting was held in the NX Bhaban conference room of the Zilla Parishad in the morning.
 
Zilla Parishad Chairman Angsuipru Chowdhury was present as the chief guest while Fisheries Affairs Convening Committee Member of the Zilla Parishad Md Abdur Rahim presided over the programme.

Chief Executive Officer of the Zilla Parishad Khandaker Mohammad Rizaul Karim, ADC (Revenue) Md Motasem Billah, ASP DSB Shah Newaz Raju, Civil Surgeon Nuyen Khisa, and District Fisheries Officer Adhir Chandra Das, among others, were also present at that time.

Earlier, a colourful rally was brought from Happy's Mor area, and it ended on the Zilla Parishad premises after parading the main streets of the town.
