Jamaat Ameer Shafiqur Rahman has strongly condemned and protested banning Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and its student wing Islami Chhatra Shibir.

Terming the ban 'unconstitutional,' he also urged the countrymen to be vocal against the decision.
In a statement sent to the mass media on Thursday, he said, "The constitution of Bangladesh has given the right to all citizens to hold meetings and rallies, and exercise the party. The government has violated the constitution banning Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir. We strongly condemn and protest the unconstitutional, undemocratic and unjust decision of the government."

Referring to the students' movement, Shafiqur Rahman said the government has committed massacre through the party cadres and state-sponsored law enforcing agencies to suppress the non-political movement of students. The country's teachers' community, cultural personalities, journalists and people belonging to different classes and professions have been protesting against the mass murder committed by the government. The international community has condemned the mass murders. "Now, the government wants to divert the ongoing movement to a different direction by banning Jamaat-e-Islami and Islami Chhatra Shibir to cover its misdeeds."

Addressing the party leaders and workers, the Jamaat ameer said, "I call upon the people belonging to all stages of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami to face the situation with patience and tolerance. The government's bid to put blame on the opposition political parties by committing genocide has failed. In the same way, the government may try to put blame on Jamaat by committing different undesired incidents. All must be cautioned about it. None should put his or her feet in the government's trap."
