The High Court on Thursday could not hold the hearing on a writ seeking release of six quota protest coordinators from DB custody and to stop use of live bullets on demonstrators as a judge of the bench is on leave.
The hearing was scheduled to be held to pass an order on the petition by the HC bench of Justice Mustafa Zaman Islam and Justice SM Masud Hossain Dolon.
But, Justice SM Masud Hossain Dolon, the junior judge of the bench, did not attend office on Wednesday and Thursday as he is on leave due to physical illness.
Earlier on Monday, Supreme Court Lawyers Ainun Nahar Siddiqa and Manzur Al Matin filed the writ petition seeking immediate release of the six 'allegedly detained' coordinators of the anti-discrimination students' movement.
The petitioners also sought a directive from the bench prohibiting law enforcers from firing on students during demonstrations.
Senior lawyer Barrister Sara Hossain, Aneek R Haque appeared for the petitioners while Additional Attorneys General SM Munir, Sheikh Mohammad Morshed and Mohammad Mehedi Hasan Chowdhury appeared for the state.
Senior lawyers Yusuf Hossain Humayun, Nurul Islam Sujan, Azhar Ullah Bhuiyan and Shah Monjurul Hoque also took part in the hearing.
After completion of the second consecutive day of hearing, the bench adjourned the hearing until Wednesday. But, the hearing did not take place on Wednesday and Thursday as the junior judge of the HC bench went on leave.
