Two killed, 11 go missing in trawlers’ capsize

Two women were killed and 11 others went missing in separate trawlers capsize in two districts - Shariatpur and Bhola, on Friday.

SHARIATPUR: A woman and her daughter were killed and three others went missing as a trawler capsized in the Meghna River in Gosairhat Upazila of the district on Friday morning. 

The accident took place in Kodalpur Launch Ghat area of the river under the upazila at around 10:30 am.

The deceased were identified as Shahana Begum, 45, and her daughter Dolly Akhter, 28, residents of Narinda area in Old Dhaka.
The missing persons are: Shanto, Shawon and Hridoy.

It was known that a total of 11 people were going to attend a social programme in a char of Kodalpur under the upazila from Dhaka on Friday morning. At one stage, the trawler capsized in the Meghna River adjacent to Kodalpur Launch Ghat area at around 10:30 am due to a sudden storm.

On informed, Fire Service personnel rushed in and conducted a rescue operation. They then recovered the bodies of two women.
Three people were also rescued at that time.

They are Tara Parvin, Sufia and Akash. All of the trio were admitted to Gosairhat Upazila Health Complex.
 
However, three persons are still missing and the Fire Service personnel continuing their rescue drive. 

Kodalpur Union Parishad Chairman SM Mizanur Rahman Sarder confirmed the incident.

CHAR FASSON, BHOLA: Eight fishermen went missing in the bay as a trawler capsized on Friday.

The incident took place in Shibchar area of the upazila at noon. 

The missing fishermen are: Nur Alam, 30, son of Selim of Ward No. 8 Nurabad Village; Kabir, 32, son of Md Hossain of Ward No.

 8; Shahe Alam Molla, 50, of Ward No. 9 Nurabad area; Md Bellal, 50, son of Goni Mridha of Ward No. 9 Ahmedpur area; Sadeq Mal, 60, son of Jalil Mal of Ward No. 9 Ahmedpur area; Sabuj, 40, son of Tajul Mal of Ward No. 9 Ahmedpur area; Md Hossain Majhi, 50, son of Nurul Haque Matabbar of Ward No. 7 Ahmedpur area; and Jahangir Mistri, 45, son of Shahe Alam of Ahmedpur area under Ward No. 9 in the upazila. 

It was known that a trawler with 13 fishermen on its board sailed off for fishing in the bay on July 26 last. On Friday noon, the trawler was heading towards Shibchar area from Shuknakhali Machh Ghat. On the way, it capsized in the sea near Shibchar area due to the strong wave. 

Five people including driver of the trawler Dulal were rescued soon after the incident, but eight fishermen went missing in the sea.

Char Fasson Upazila Senior Fisheries Officer Maruf Hossain Minar confirmed the incident, adding that the matter was informed to Char Manika Zone of Bangladesh Coast Guard.
