Nationwide clashes leave 14 dead, over 200 injured, including in Dhaka

At least 14 people were killed and over 200 were injured in clashes between protesters and police across the country, including Dhaka, on Monday morning. Sources at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) said more than 100 people were brought to the hospital on Monday morning. Of them, 10 were declared dead by the physicians, confirmed the hospital's police outpost in-charge, Md Bachhu Miah.

Three people were shot dead during clashes between protesters and law enforcement in the Kajla area of Jatrabari. The deceased have been identified as Rasel, 25, Abdur Rahman, 30, and Rakib Hossain, 24.
 The clashes, which began after 10 am on Monday, resulted in these fatalities.

Rasel, who was shot in the head, was brought to Dhaka Medical College Hospital by a passer-by named Sumon and others. He was pronounced dead at 11:40 am. Sumon said that Rasel was shot under the Kajla Bridge. Two other gunshot victims were also brought to Dhaka Medical College Hospital around 1:30 pm, where they were declared dead by attending doctors.

Protesters began gathering in Shanir Akhra, Kajla, and Rayarbazar after 10 am. By 1 pm, a segment of the protesters had started marching towards Jatrabari Police Station, leading to intense confrontations.

Our Habiganj Correspondent added that at least three people were shot dead and several, including police, were injured in a clash between police and agitators in Habiganj's Baniachang on Monday morning. The three died of gunshot wounds. Two of the deceased were between 18 and 20 years old, while the other was middle-aged, confirmed the district's civil surgeon, Nurul Haque.

According to locals, agitators started marching towards the police station from the Borobazar area when police stopped them near the Eidgah area around 11:00 am. Their argument soon turned into a clash, with protesters throwing bricks at the police, who were firing rubber bullets, tear shells, and stun grenades. The police retreated after a while, following which the agitators attacked the police station and set it on fire, reports our local correspondent.

Our Rajshahi Correspondent added that a man was killed and 35 were injured in a clash between protesters and Awami League leaders and activists at Talaimari in Rajshahi town on Monday during the nationwide indefinite curfew. A group of protesters gathered at Talaimari intersection around 11 am and marched towards Shaheb Bazar. When the protesters reached Sagarpara Kalpana Cinema Hall, a chase and counter-chase took place among Awami League activists and protesters. A man was found dead near Shah Makhdum College, sources said. Dr Shankar Dey Biswas, duty officer of Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital, said 30-45 people with bullet injuries were admitted to the hospital.
