Bangladesh Bank (BB) has lifted ban on journalists' entry to the bank which was in force for the past several month allegedly to hide the bank's internal irregularities. Deputy Governor of the central bank Kazi Saidur Rahman confirmed the lifting while exchanging views with member of the Economic Reporters' Forum on Tuesday.
Bangladesh Bank's Governor, Abdur Rauf Talukder, was notably absent in office on the first day after the political changeover. According to Kazi Saidur Rahman, the governor did not attend work due to stress but has urged all staff members to continue their duties as usual.
During the meeting, Kazi Saidur Rahman emphasized that Bangladesh Bank is focused on restructuring the banking sector and prepared to collaborate with the new government. He assured sharing of all necessary information will the media, ensuring full access for journalists.
The decision to lift the ban reflects a broader commitment to transparency and open communication. Deputy Governors Nurun Nahar, Md. Habibur Rahman, Md. Khurshid Alam, Executive Director Mejbaul Haque, and other central bank officials who attended the event also said.
This development signals a renewed focus on collaboration with the media, they said.
