Actor Shanto Khan and his father chairman of Lakshmipur Model Union Parishad of Sadar Upazila in Chandpur and film producer Selim Khan were beaten to death by mob on Monday.

This was confirmed by multiple posts from the Facebook group 'Bangla Chalachitra'.
It was known that Shanto and his father Selim Khan got into a disturbance in Balia Union's Farakkabad market on Monday afternoon during their escape from their hometown.

When they arrived at the neighbouring Bagara market, they were confronted by mobs but were still able to protect themselves by shooting their weapons.

The attackers there then attacked and murdered Selim Khan and his actor son Shanto Khan.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Chandpur Sadar Model Police Station Sheikh Mohsin Alam confirmed the incident.

For many years, Salim Khan ruled and was convicted for illegally extracting sand with hundreds of dredgers in the Padma and Meghna rivers at the Chandpur maritime border. He was jailed for these incidents, and a case against him is currently ongoing in Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC). He was the proprietor and director of Shapla Media, which has produced several popular films including 'Shahenshah' and 'Bidrohi' starring Dhallywood superstar Shakib Khan, to name a few.

He even directed the film 'Tungi Parar Miya Bhai' based on various events such as the childhood, adolescence, and youth of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

That film launched the career of his son Shanto Khan, who later, acted in several other movies under his father's production banner.

Back in July this year, the ACC filed a case against actor Shanto Khan over his alleged involvement in amassing illegal wealth worth Tk 3.25 crore, on charges of a non-submission of asset declaration on time and amassing illegal assets.
