BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman on Wednesday called upon his party leaders and activists to set an example by serving as a protective shield in their localities across the country for ensuring the safety of all individuals regardless of their caste or creed.

He also urged the administration to punish anyone who tries to indulge in vandalism and violence in the name of BNP.

Speaking at a large rally virtually, he said, "I call upon the administration to ensure the security of all people so that no one feels insecure. We must ensure this quickly."

Tarique Rahman called on the leaders and workers to set an example by standing as a shield for the security of all people, irrespective of their religions and castes.

He said, "Stop the attacks and anarchy from this moment. Even if someone wants to do something wrong using the name of BNP, arrest him and hand him over to the law. If you have a specific complaint against any police officer, file a complaint with the concerned authorities as per the rules."

Tarique Rahman said, "Sheikh Hasina has imposed autocracy on the people for the last 15 years, taking away the voting rights of 12.5 crore voters."

He continued, "The fall of the genocidal dictatorship of Sheikh Hasina is only the first step in a revolution stained with the blood of thousands of martyrs. The ultimate goal of this bloody revolution of the students is to build a democratic Bangladesh without discrimination."

The Acting Chairman of BNP stated that the election should be held soon, demanding national elections to implement the goals of the revolution. Power should be transferred to the elected representatives of the people as soon as possible.

Tarique Rahman congratulated the brave students, saying, "Sheikh Hasina fled the country in the face of your heroic, united movement. It has been proven that the Bangladesh of the Liberation War never accepts defeat."

He said, "The liberation wars of 1971 and 2024 were fought to protect the country from dictators and to establish democracy in the country."

Tarique Rahman continued, "After the escape of the genocidal dictator Sheikh Hasina, the people of the country are expressing their feelings of independence. The people of Bangladesh witnessed another victory on August 5 in exchange for the blood of thousands of martyrs."

He stated that there was a conspiracy to create an unstable environment across the country to obstruct democracy.

He appealed to the administration to control law and order with a firm hand and ensure the safety of every human being.

Calling on all democratic parties, including BNP leaders and workers, Tarique Rahman said, "Whoever your friend or neighbour is, whether he is Muslim, Buddhist, Hindu, or Christian, whatever his religious identity or faith, save them."

"We must remember that every person living in the territory of Bangladesh has an identity: we are all Bangladeshis," he said.

The Acting Chairman of BNP stated, "The police are essential in a civilized and democratic state. The police are not the enemy of the people. Sheikh Hasina positioned law enforcement as the enemy of the people to cling to power illegally."

"Except for a small portion within the police force, most police officers and members are trying to fulfill their duties by following the rules of service and the law. After Sheikh Hasina's escape, a cabal is now conspiring to demoralise the police," he said.

Tarique Rahman said, "If the police become ineffective, it is easy to destabilise the country and create insecurity for religious minorities."

He called upon the country's people not to take the law into their own hands.
