Asaduzzaman new attorney general

Senior Supreme Court lawyer Mohammad Asaduz-zaman has been appointed the new attorney general for Bangladesh.

President Mohammed Shahabuddin appointed him as the attorney general on Thursday.

Law Secretary Md Golam Sarwar issued a gazette notification to this effect on Thursday.

Asaduzzzaman is the human rights affairs secretary of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP).

In an immediate reaction, the newly appointed attorney general said that his office will work continuously to establish the rights of the people of this country.

The future Bangladesh will be the Bangladesh of paying the blood debt to the recent movement activists. As the Attorney General, the main aim will be to act on behalf of the people of the country, he added.

The Attorney General called for the opening of the Supreme Court as soon as possible.

In response to a query, the chief law officer of the state said that after the formation of the new government, the policy makers would decide on the judges.

Law Reporters Forum (LRF) congratulated the new attorney general and hoped that the new appointed attorney general will work for upholding the rule of law in the country.

In a statement, LRF president Asraful Alam and Moniruzzaman Mission said that the new appointed general would work neutrally in order to uphold the rule of law in the country.

On August 7, the then attorney general, AM Amin Uddin, resigned from the post citing "personal difficulties".

Asaduzzaman, an environmentalist lawyer, is the human rights affairs secretary of BNP.

He is a student of batch-17 of Dhaka University's law department.

Meanwhile, two others Additional Attornies General SM Munir and Mehedi Hasan Chowdhury also resigned on Thursday.

With their resignation, the three additional attorneys general have resigned in the meantime.

Earlier, Attorney General AM Amin Uddin and Additional Attorney General Sheikh Md Morshed resigned on Wednesday.
