RANGAMATI, Aug 9: In the second phase, fishing ban time in the Kaptai Lake was extended for 23 days, from August 9 to August 31.

Fishing will begin again in the lake from September 1 mid-night. Fishing remained suspended for three months (May 1-July 1) in the lake.

This decision was taken at a meeting held in the conference hall of the Deputy Commissioner (DC) office on Thursday morning.

The meeting was presided over by Deputy Commissioner (DC) Mohammad Mosharraf Hossain. DC said, after considering all sides and in the absence of inadequate water in the lake, this decision has been taken.

Manager of BFDC-Rangamati Commander Ashraful Islam said, "Considering scientific explanation, and interest of businessmen and fishermen, we took this decision. The fishing will begin from September 1."

DC said, about 27,000 fishermen live on fishing in the lake; businessmen are also engaged in it; it is true, consumers are deprived of protein as the fishing remained suspended in the lake for a long time.

Considering interest of all, the time has been extended, the DC added.
