Five people killed in five districts

Five people have been killed in separate incidents in five districts - Meherpur, Dinajpur, Moulvibazar, Barishal and Pabna, in two days.

MEHERPUR: A man was hacked to death by miscreants in Mujibnagar Upazila of the district on Friday.
The incident took place in Taranagar Village of the upazila at night.
The deceased was identified as Alam Hossain, 40, son of Akwat Ali, a resident of the area. He was a listed drug dealer. 

Police and local sources said Alam Hossain was sleeping in his house at night. At that time, a group of miscreants, equipped with domestic weapon, entered the house, and attacked him. They then hacked him indiscriminately, leaving Alam dead on the spot.

Being informed, police recovered the body from the scene and sent it to Meherpur General Hospital morgue for an autopsy.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Mujibnagar Police Station (PS) Saiful Islam confirmed the incident, adding that the law enforcers are trying to identify and arrest those involved in the killing.

DINAJPUR: An HSC examinee, who was shot by police during the Anti-Discrimination Students' Movement in the district on August 4, succumbed to his injuries at Dinajpur M Abdur Rahim Medical College Hospital on Friday evening while undergoing treatment.

The deceased was identified as Rahul Islam, 18, son of Moslem Uddin, a resident of Raniganj Bazaar Moharajpur Bijulshahi Village under No. 3 Fazilpur Union in Sadar Upazila of the district. He was participating in the HSC examinations from Raniganj Ehia Hossain School and College this year.

It was known that a clash took place between the protestors of Anti-Discrimination Students' Movement and the police on August 4 last. During the clash, police fired on the protestors to control the situation, which left at least 50 people injured. Of them, Rahul was shot on the Dinajpur Court premises in the district town at noon. 

He was then rescued and taken to Dinajpur M Abdur Rahim Medical College Hospital.

Later on, he succumbed to his injuries at the hospital on Friday evening while undergoing treatment. 

MOULVIBAZAR: A union parishad (UP) chairman was killed in a clash between two groups over establishing supremacy in Rajnagar Upazila of the district on Friday.

The incident took place in Madhur Bazaar area under Panchgaon Union of the upazila at around 10 am that also left at least 25 people injured.

The deceased was identified as Md Sirajul Islam Sana. He was the chairman of Panchgaon UP and general secretary of the union unit of Awami League. 

Local sources said the supporters of Pintu Sultan of Rokta Village and Dewan Mia of Kewla Village were locked into a clash over establishing supremacy in Madhur Bazaar at around 10 am. At one stage, UP chairman Sirajul Islam Sana was shot. 

Locals rescued him, but he succumbed to his injuries at noon on the way to Sylhet.

Sirajul was a cousin brother and supporter of Dewan Mia of Kewla Village.

The injured persons were admitted to various hospitals in Moulvibazar and Sylhet.

BARISHAL: A young man of Gournadi Upazila in the district, who was shot in Mohammadpur area in Dhaka five days back during the Anti-Discrimination Students' Movement, died at Dhaka Neuroscience Hospital on Friday morning. 

Deceased Ilias Khan, 33, was the son of Faruq Khan of Pashchim Shawra Village under Gournadi Upazila in Barishal. He was an electrician by profession and used to live in Mohammadpur of Dhaka for work purpose.

The deceased's family sources said Ilias was shot during a clash centring the Anti-Discrimination Students' Movement in Mohammadpur area of the capital on August 4 last. 

He was then rescued and admitted to Dhaka Neuroscience Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries at around 8:30 am on Friday while undergoing treatment.  

His Namaz-e-Janaza was held in Pashchim Shawra Village of Gournadi in the afternoon.
 
SANTHIA, PABNA: A man, who was severely injured in an attacked carried out by his rivals over previous enmity in Santhia Upazila of the district, died at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) on Thursday noon. 

The deceased was identified as Achhir Pramanik, 42, son of late Ilbaz Pramanik, a resident of Doyarampur Village under Dhopadah Union. 

The deceased's sister Jelena Khatun said that about 100 people led by one Tajmul of Doyarampur Village attacked the house of Achhir Pramanik on Tuesday late-night over previous enmity. 

They vandalised the house and set fire on it. They also hacked Achhir Pramanik with local weapons indiscriminately at that time, which left him critically injured. 

The family members, later, admitted Achhir Pramanik to Pabna Sadar Hospital on Wednesday morning, where the on-duty doctor referred him to the RMCH following the deterioration of his condition. 

Later on, Achhir Pramanik succumbed to his injuries at the RMCH on Thursday noon while undergoing treatment.

Santhia PS OC Anwar Hossain confirmed the incident, adding that necessary steps would be taken after the situation gets normal.
