Man beaten to death on suspicion of robbery

A man reportedly beaten and hacked to death on suspicion of being a robber at Shibganj upazila in Chapainawabganj district on Saturday. 

The incident occurred late Friday night in Sherapur-Vhandar village under Durlavpur union of the upazila.
The deceased was Raihan Ali, son of Rajabul Biswas from British Mor area in the union.

Citing locals, Shibganj Police Station officer-in-charge (Investigation) Sukomal Debnath said that Raihan was assaulted with a sharp weapon in the night by locals who suspected him of being a robber. He died at the scene.

A few days earlier, a robbery took place at a house in the area which heightened local tensions, he said.

On information, police went there and recovered the body. Legal actions will be taken in this regard, added the OC.
