The government has formed a four-member search committee to appoint a new deputy governor in the central bank. A circular signed by Deputy Secretary of the Financial Institutions Division of the Ministry of Finance, Afsana Bilkis said on Monday Former Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) Mohammad Muslim Chowdhury nominated as convener of the search committee. Badre Munir Ferdous, joint secretary of the financial institutions department, was elected as member secretary. Also Bangladesh Bank Board Director Nazrul Huda and former Chief Economist of Bangladesh Bank, Mustafa Kamal Mujeri has been inducted.
The new Deputy Governor will be appointed on the basis of the committee's recommendation. Apart from this, Finance and Planning Advisor Salehuddin Ahmed will decide on the appointment of the new governor after discussing with the chief advisor.
After the fall of Sheikh Hasina's government, four deputy governors and the head of BFIU left the central bank resigned in the face of protests last Wednesday.
