Bangladesh Krira Unnoyon Parishad held a protest meeting and human chain outside of the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur today, demanding the resignation of all directors of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB).

Citing the reason that the BCB directors' corruption ruined the Bangladesh cricket in the last 15 years, the vowed to continue their protest until their demand is met.

The banner read, 'Protest and human chain to demand the removal and resignation of all incompetent, inefficient and corrupted directors of the Bangladesh Cricket Board run by Awami misrule in the last 15 years.'

Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Sports Secretary and former footballer Aminul Haque, former Joint Secretary of BCB Rafiqul Islam Babu and General Secretary of CWAB (Cricket Welfare Association of Bangladesh) Debbrata Paul led the human chain in which around a thousand people were present.

Even though they made a human chain outside the stadium, the activists and supporters of the Krira Unnoyon Parishad could not enter inside as the Bangladesh Army members took position at the stadium since morning.

However, after the protest meeting and human chain, a group of organizers led by Aminul went to meet the CEO Nizam Uddin Chowdhury at the BCB office inside the stadium.

Since the ouster of the Sheikh Hasina-led government, most of the BCB directors including its president Nazmul Hasan Papon, who was an MP of the then ruling party, are in the hiding and their absence made board's routine work difficult one.

BCB Directors Mahbub Anam, Khaled Mahmud Sujon, Iftekhar Ahmed Mithu, Akram Khan, Jalal Yunus, Ahmed Sazzadul Alam Bobby, Kazi Enam and CEO Nizam Uddin Chowdhury held a meeting with the Sports Adviser Asif Mahmud Sajeeb Bhuiyan at the Secretariat on Sunday.

As the president is yet to show up, the sports adviser advised to look for legal aspects regarding the appointment of a president in interim basis, as the BCB has many International events coming up.    —BSS
