Sub-post office in Panchagarh still closed

PANCHAGARH, Aug 14: Panchagarh Town sub-post office in the district town has been closed since August 4.

The office at Chowrangi crossing was closed amid vandalism, looting and arson.

District Awami League office is next to that office.

On August 4 at 11am when the Awami League party office was burnt, a group of miscreants entered the town sub-post office and looted it and set it on fire; cash money, records, stamps, postal and revenue tickets, EMTS mobile sets, laptops, and various expensive seals were vandalised and looted and burnt.

The miscreants set fire to the office furniture and documents before leaving. They even set fire to the office door and window grills and took them away. 

Azizul Islam, postmaster of the sub-post office, somehow escaped to save his life.

Panchagarh Post Office Inspector Mosharf Hossain Sarkar informed the  authorities about the fire. He said, the damage cost is more than Tk 10 lakh. 

At present, the office is not in a condition to carry out activities.
