Woman, son killed in Cumilla road accident

A young woman and her son were killed while the father was injured in a road accident on the Dhaka-Chattogram Highway in Sadar Dakshin upazila of Cumilla district on Thursday afternoon.

The deceased were identified as Mariam Akter, 20, wife of Yasin Mia of Chauddagram upazila of the district, and her one-year-four- month old son Alvi.
The accident occurred in the area when they were heading to Bhagalpurin Cumilla Sadar Dakshin upazila from Chauddagram upazila riding on a motorcycle. On the way, a covered van hit their bike around 1:30pm, leaving two of them dead on the spot and another injured, officer-in-charge (OC) of Mainamati Crossing Highway Police Station Iqbal Bahar Majumdar said citing witnesses.

The injured was taken to Cumilla Sadar Dakshin Upazila Health Complex and the bodies were handed over to the family members, added the OC.
