Interim Government Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus recently had a phone conversation with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during which he assured the safety and security of all minorities in Bangladesh, including Hindus.
According to a report by NDTV, during the call, Dr. Yunus provided reassurances to the Indian Prime Minister regarding the protection of minorities in Bangladesh.
Narendra Modi confirmed their conversation in a post on social media platform X on Friday. In his post, Modi stated, "I received a call from Professor Yunus, the Chief Advisor of Bangladesh interim government. We discussed the prevailing situation of Hindus and minority communities in the country."
Modi further mentioned in his post, "I reiterated India's support for a democratic, stable, peaceful, and progressive Bangladesh. He assured me of the safety and security of Hindus and all other minorities in Bangladesh."
The conversation comes after Modi's remarks about Bangladesh during his speech at Red Fort in Delhi on occasion of India's Independence Day on Thursday. Modi expressed India’s continued support for Bangladesh's progress and emphasized the importance of ensuring the safety of minorities, particularly Hindus, in Bangladesh.
Earlier, on August 8, Nobel laureate Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus was sworn in as the Chief Advisor of the interim government after the ouster of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on August 5.
On the same day, Narendra Modi extended his congratulations to Dr. Yunus for assuming his new role. In a post on X, Modi wrote, "My best wishes to Professor Muhammad Yunus on taking up his new responsibilities. We hope for a swift return to normalcy, ensuring the safety and security of the Hindu and other minority communities."
