Nationwide Outrage Follows Tragic Rape and Murder of Kolkata Doctor
The tragic rape and murder of a female trainee doctor at Kolkata's R G Kar Medical College and Hospital has sparked nationwide outrage. Junior doctors have gone on strike, demanding justice for the victim.
In recent developments, a specialized team from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), along with forensic and medical experts, arrived in Kolkata on Wednesday to commence the investigation into the alleged crime.

Details of the Incident:
On the night of the tragedy, the second-year postgraduate trainee doctor had dinner with her juniors and went to rest at around 2 am.

Due to a lack of available rest spaces, she chose the seminar hall as a place to sleep, believing it to be safe.

The following morning, her body was found semi-nude in the seminar hall on August 9, after she had completed her shift the night before.

Her father raised serious concerns about the signs of rape and alleged delays in the hospital's investigation.

Community Response:
Postgraduate doctors at the hospital ceased work in all departments except emergency services, demanding the arrest of those responsible.

Student associations organized rallies demanding a prompt investigation.

Opposition leaders, including Bengal BJP legislators, have demanded an independent magistrate-led inquiry.

Autopsy Findings:
Preliminary reports revealed sexual assault prior to murder.

The autopsy confirmed that the death was not a suicide, but a violent death with multiple injuries, including broken bones and bleeding.

It was reported that her nose and mouth were covered, and her head was forcefully pushed against a wall or floor to silence her.

Arrests and Investigation:
The police have arrested 33-year-old Sanjoy Roy, a civic volunteer, in connection with the crime. Evidence, including a torn Bluetooth earphone, led to his arrest.

Roy had access to multiple hospital departments thanks to his ties with senior police officers and hospital officials.
Allegations of Roy's past abusive behavior and history of watching pornography have surfaced.    —TOL
