A sabotage case has been filed against former social welfare minister Dipu Moni, one of the influential leaders of the Awami League government, and her brother.

According to Sheikh Mohammad Mohsin Alam, the chief of Chandpur Sadar Model Police Station, the case was filed on Wednesday.
In addition to Dipu Moni, her elder brother Wadud Tipu and 382 others have been accused in the case.
At least 1200 unidentified people have also been accused of sabotage.

The plaintiff, Md Selim Mia, 45, is the manager of a building called Munira Bhaban. He is a resident of Chandpur's Koralia area municipality, Ward No. 8.

According to the case dossier, on Jul 18, hundreds of armed leaders and activists stormed into Munira Bhaban and vandalised the entire building.

It also mentions that the said building was sabotaged, looted and set on fire with the help of Dipu Moni, Chandpur Awami League Vice President Wadud Tipu, General Secretary Abu Nayeem Patwari Dulal, Chandpur Municipality Mayor Zillur Rahman, and Chandpur Sadar Upazila Parishad Chairman Humayun Kabir Shumon.

During the attack, the building's owner, Sheikh Farid Ahmed Manik, the District BNP president, was out of the country.
The case dossier also reveals that the owner has incurred a loss of around Tk 25 million due to the attack.

Sheikh Farid told bdnews24.com: "I have never treated anyone cruelly. I had to see my house being sabotaged out of revenge only because of politics. I respect the law and expect justice and a fair trial."

Additional Superintendent of Police Yasir Arafat said, "The legal proceedings in the case are ongoing. We will be careful to ensure no innocent person is harassed."
