ICT Advisor Nahid Islam has condemned the harassment and illegal phone checking of ordinary citizens heading towards Dhanmondi Road No. 32 to pay respects to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on Aug 15.

On Thursday, Nahid took to Facebook to censure the assaults on ordinary unarmed citizens and the checking of mobile phones.
Equally, he said, showing arrested people in a bad light in the media is a violation of human rights. "Criminals should be tried lawfully," said Nahid.
"Our revolution is based on justice and principles. Our student-citizen revolution aimed to topple the fascist system, establishing security of life and justice in society. We must follow the spirit of the revolution as we continue the resistance."

Meanwhile, the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement body has issued a statement after criticism surfaced on social media about the checking of phones belonging to ordinary citizens moving towards Dhanmondi Road No. 32 on Thursday.

Rifat Rashid, one of the movement's coordinators, said there were several reports of people being harassed as their phones were checked in various places of the capital amid the programme of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.

"Members of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement want to clarify that we do not support any act which invades a person's privacy. Such acts are reviving old instances of discrimination. So do not do anything that invades people's privacy, like checking their mobile phones."

The statement also said ensuring 'freedom of personal life' is one key step towards creating a country free of discrimination.
