Six people found dead in five districts

Six people including a woman and minor child have been found dead in separate incidents in five districts - Cox's Bazar, Bhola, Narayanganj, Gopalganj and Madaripur, in three days.

COX'S BAZAR: The body of an HSC examinee has been recovered from Kolatali Point of the sea beach in the district town on Saturday morning after he went missing in the sea while bathing 20 hours back.

The deceased was identified as Atahar Nur Kaif, 18, son of Bashir Mahmud, a resident of Bhalukia Palang area under Ratnapalang Union in Ukhiya Upazila of the district. He was participating in the HSC examinations from the Science Department of Cox's Bazar DC College this year.
  
It was known that Atahar Nur Kaif along with his maternal cousin brother and one of the brother's friends was bathing in the sea at Kolatali Point of the sea beach in the district town on Friday morning. At one stage of bathing, Atahar Nur Kaif washed away due to the strong wave of the sea.  
  
Knowing the matter, the family members, life guard members, tourist police and beach workers conducted search drive, but could not locate the teenage boy.
 
Later on, locals spotted the body of Atahar floating in the sea near Kolatali Point at around 6 am on Saturday and informed the matter to tourist police. 

Being informed, tourist police recovered the body and handed it over to the deceased's family members.

Superintend of Cox's Bazar Zone Tourist Police Mohammad Manzur Morshed confirmed the incident.

CHAR FASSON, BHOLA: The body of a woman, who went missing after a boat capsized in the Meghna River three days back, was recovered from Char Fasson Upazila of the district on Friday night.

The deceased was identified as Setu, 30, daughter of Moshsin Uddin Ahmed of Chandpur Judge Court, hailed from Matlab Dakshin Upazila in Chandpur. Setu, wife of Brac officer Faruque Hossain Taiyab, used to live in Nazir Para area in Chandpur District Town.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Char Fasson Police Station (PS) Shakhawat Hossain said that locals spotted the body of a woman on the bank of the Betua Meghna River in the upazila at night and informed the matter to police.

Being informed, police recovered the body from the scene, and after identification, handed it over to the deceased's family members at around 10 am on Saturday, the OC added.

The deceased's family sources said that Setu along with five others including a newlywed woman Fahima were travelling by an engine-run boat from Chandpur Launch Ghat at around 8 pm on Tuesday last. At one stage, the boat capsized in the Meghna River due to the strong current of the river. 

Later on, four people were rescued, but Setu and Fahima could not be found. 

NARAYANGANJ: Two men were found dead in separate incidents in the district on Thursday and Friday.

Police recovered the floating body of a young man from a lake in Siddhirganj area in the city on Friday afternoon.

The deceased was identified as Md Arif, 28, son of Md Hossain Ali of Goari Bhanga area under Homna Upazila in Cumilla District. He lived in a rented house owned by one Rajjab Ali in Siddhirganj Pool area of Narayanganj City.
 
The deceased's maternal uncle Babul Mia said that Arif did not return his rented house on Thursday night. His mobile phone was also found switched off. 

Later on, locals spotted his body floating in a lake in CI Khola area of Siddhirganj on Friday afternoon and informed the matter to police.

Being informed, police recovered the body from the scene in the evening and sent it to Narayanganj General Hospital morgue for an autopsy.  

The body bore injury marks on its back.

Babul Mia further said that Arif had a feud with his wife for the last few days. He might have been killed following the scuffle.

Siddhirganj PS OC Abu Bakar Siddique confirmed the incident, adding that the actual reason behind his death would be known after getting the autopsy report.

On the other hand, Naval Police recovered the half-decomposed body of another young man from the Shitalakshya River in Sonargaon Upazila of the district on Thursday noon.

The identity of the deceased, aged about 27, could not be known immediately.

It was known that local people spotted the half-decomposed body of the youth in the Shitalakshya River in Darigaon area under Sonargaon Upazila of the district at noon and informed the matter to police through calling on the national emergency number 999.

Being informed, a team of Kalagachhia Naval Police Outpost rushed in and recovered the body from the river. 
Later on, the body was sent to Narayanganj 100-bed General Hospital morgue for an autopsy.

In-Charge of Kalagacchia Naval Police Outpost Inspector Habibullah confirmed the incident, adding that the law enforcers are investigating the matter and trying to identify the deceased. 

However, an unnatural death case was filed with the PS concerned in this connection, the official added. 

GOPALGANJ: The body of a minor child was recovered from a reed field in Kashiani Upazila of the district on Thursday night.
The body was recovered from Baluchar area of Saphlidanga Village under the upazila at around 10 pm. 

The deceased was identified as Apurba Tikadar, 4, son of farmer Tapas Tikadar, a resident of Saphlidanga Village in the upazila.

According to police and local sources, Apurba was playing on the yard of their house on Thursday afternoon and went missing after a while. His mother Pali Tikadar, who was busy with household chores, noticed his absence at around 6:30 pm and started searching for him. 

After being failed to locate him, the family members reported the incident to Ramdia Police Outpost. Later on, with the help of locals, police found Apurba's beheaded body in a reed field in Baluchar area of the village at around 10 pm.

Ramdia Police Outpost Inspector Abdullah Al Mamun confirmed the incident, adding that the law enforcers have recovered the body and sent it to Gopalganj 250-bed General Hospital morgue for an autopsy. 

After the autopsy, the body was handed over to the family on Friday afternoon, he added.

Kashiani PS Inspector Zillur Rahman said that the child's father Tapas Tikadar has filed a complaint with the PS. It is suspected that the incident might have been occurred due to previous enmity. 

However, police have already started an investigation into the case, the police official added.

SHIBCHAR, MADARIPUR: The body of a college student was recovered from the Moynakata River in Shibchar Upazila of the district on Tuesday evening after six hours of his missing.

The deceased was identified as Rakib Khan, 24, son of Jashim Khan, a resident of Charshyamail Village under Shiruail Union in the upazila. He was a student of Government Barhamganj College in Shibchar.
 
It was known that Rakib went out of the house at around 1 pm on Tuesday, but did not return till the evening. The family members then started searching for him. Later on, locals spotted the body of Rakib floating in the Moynakata River adjacent to the Joy Bangla Bridge in the upazila at around 7 pm.

Being informed by the locals, the family members rescued Rakib and took him to Shibchar Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.

The actual reason behind his death could not be known immediately, but the body bore snakebite on its hand, said the physicians of the hospital.

Shibchar PS OC Subrata Kumar Goldar confirmed the incident.
