Three killed, 18 hurt in road mishaps in 3 dists

Three people including a woman were killed and at least 18 others injured in separate road accidents in three districts - Sherpur, Brahmanbaria and Gazipur, on Friday.

NALITABARI, SHERPUR: A motorcyclist was killed and two others were injured after being hit by a truck in Nalitabari Upazila of the district on Friday.

The accident took place in Noyanikanda Nokla-Nalitabari Bypass area near Nalitabari Municipal Town in the evening.

The deceased was identified as Moazzem Hossain, 20, son of Chhamatullah, a resident of Char Jangaldi Village under Sadar Upazila in the district.  The injured persons are: Shamim Hossain and Jahid Mia, residents of the same village.

It was known that three friends Moazzem, Shamim and Jahid were heading towards Nalitabari Town in the evening riding on a motorcycle. On the way, a truck coming from the opposite direction at reckless speed hit the motorcycle in Noyanikanda Nokla-Nalitabari Bypass area, which left motorcycle driver Moazzem dead on the spot and its two pillion riders critically injured.
Being informed, police recovered the body.

Locals, however, rescued the injured persons and rushed them to Sherpur Sadar Hospital, where the two are currently undergoing treatment. 

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Nalitabari Police Station (PS) Monirul Alam Bhuiyan confirmed the incident, adding that necessary steps would be taken in this regard.

BRAHMANBARIA: A woman was killed and at least 15 others were injured in a road accident in Sarail Upazila of the district on Friday.

The accident took place on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway in Baishamura area under Shahbazpur Union of the upazila at around 11:30 am.

The deceased was identified as Hajera Khatun, 45, wife of Abdul Quddus Mia, a resident of Mogaltula Village of Sarail Sadar Union in the upazila.

It was known that the accident occurred in Baishamura area when a passenger bus of 'Diganta Paribahan' was going to Madhabpur Upazila in Habiganj from Brahmanbaria District Town. 

On the way, the bus overturned on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway as the driver lost control over its steering. The woman died on the spot and at least 15 other passengers of the bus were injured at that time.

Being informed, police recovered the body. 

The injured were rescued and admitted to different hospitals.

However, the law enforcers have seized the bus, but its driver and his helper managed to flee the scene.

Sarail Khantihata Highway PS OC Ashish Kumar Sanyal confirmed the incident, adding that legal action would be taken in this connection.

GAZIPUR: A man was killed and another injured when a pickup van crashed into an electricity pole after losing its control over the steering on the Dhaka-Kishoreganj highway in Sreepur Upazila of the district on Friday morning.

The accident took place in Dhaladia area under the upazila at around 6 am.

The deceased was identified as Apurva Burman, 45, hailed from Safaisri Village in Kapasia Upazila of the district.

The injured person is Jibon Burman, 50, who was in the pickup van going to Gazipur from Kapasia.

Local sources said that the pickup lost control over its steering and hit an electricity pole in Dhaladia area at around 6 am, which left the duo critically injured. 

Locals then rescued the injured and rushed them to a hospital, where the on-duty doctor declared Apurva dead.
