Chattogram's environment-loving student society has organized a mobile campaign titled 'Plastic Free City' to ensure a sustainable environment.

They campaign in different places in the city on Sunday. Aiming at the need to end plastic pollution, the campaign is driven by the awareness message 'Sabai Mile Kari Pon, Bandha hobe Plastic dusan'.

A group of conscious students from public and private schools, colleges and universities of Chattogram participated in the three-day ongoing campaign.

The students participating in the campaign were divided into different groups to clean the plastic waste lying on the roads and distributed awareness leaflets among the public to discourage the use of plastic waste and not to throw plastic waste anywhere.

The students who participated in the campaign said that we want to tell the people of the country through this campaign. The aim of this campaign is to create a plastic waste free country and a world. That's why we have to be aware from all sides. People should be discouraged from using plastic. Then we can protect our soil and environment.
They also said that hazardous chemicals used in the manufacture of plastic are released into the environment after being dumped. According to recent research, more than 13,000 chemicals are variously involved in plastics and plastic manufacturing. These harmful chemicals enter the human body through the food chain and cause serious damage to health. We take this initiative to raise awareness about the harmful effects of plastic.

Ariful Islam Tamim, chief coordinator of the campaign and a student of Journalism and Media Studies Department of Port City International University, said, the future of Bangladesh is in the hands of the youth. Plastic is a serious threat to our environment and health. We organize such campaigns out of social responsibility to inform about the harmful aspects of plastic and prevent pollution.

He also said, we students have distributed awareness leaflets to people besides collecting plastic. Eco-friendly students will plant trees with the proceeds from the sale of collected plastic.

The three-day long campaign started in the morning at Kazir Dewri premises in Chattogram. Through this campaign, people's opinion on the use of plastic and its effects is also sought. Most people welcomed the initiative and expressed concern about the harmful effects of plastic on the environment. They appealed to the government to immediately stop the production of single-use plastic and make its alternatives available.
