A Chattogram Court on Sunday rejected the bail prayer to former Chattogram Superintendent of Police (SP) Babul Akthar, arrested in a case filed over the murder of his wife Mahmuda Khanam Mitu on June 5, 2016.
Md Jasim Uddin, the Judge of Chattogram Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge's Court-3, turned down the bail plea on Sunday.
Bench assistant Omar Farooq Majumder confirmed the developement, adding,"The bail application was heard in the same court on August 14. After hearing the both sides, the court set August 18 for another hearing. Later, the court rejected the bail plea today."
"Testimony of 51 people has been completed in this case," said Omar Farooq.
According to the case statement, earlier on June 5 of 2016, Mitu, wife of Babul Akhtar, was shot and hacked to death at GEC intersection in Chattogram while she was taking her son to school bus. In a case filed by Mitu's father regarding this incident, Babul Akhter was made the main accused.
The other accused in the case are Motaleb Mia alias Wasim, Anowar Hossain, Ehteshamul Haque Bhola, Shahjahan Mia, Kamrul Islam Shikder Mucha and Khairul Islam.
