Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in separate drives arrested five alleged drug peddlers along with 136 kilograms of hemp from Chattogram district on early Sunday.
The arrested are Md Nurul Azim, 24, Md Amin, 19, Md Omar Farooq, 50, Md Mustafa Kamal, 45, Rahmat Ali, 23.
RAB-7 Senior Assistant Director (Media) Md Sharif-Ul-Alam confirmed the matter in a press release on Sunday afternoon.
During the driver, the elite force also seized two vehicles used for transporting the drugs, said the release.
According to RAB, being tipped off, RAB was informed in the small hours on Sunday that several drug dealers were staying in Faujdarhat area of Sitakunda police station. Based on the information, a team from the force conducted a raid in the site and arrested two people along with 60 kilograms of hemp hidden in a private car.
In another raid at Muradpur area of Chattogram city, two more people were arrested along with 53 kilograms of hemp. At that they also seized a covered van used for smuggling the drugs, said the press release.
In addition, the RAB team conducted an anti-drug drive at Mahipal Soudia bus counter in Feni district on the same day and arrested an alleged drug peddler with 23 kilograms of hemp, reads the notification.
Later, the arrested have been handed over to the concerned police stations to take legal actions, added the press release.
