Road mishaps claim six lives in three districts

Six people including a man and his son have been killed and another was injured in separate road accidents in three districts - Bagerhat, Chattogram and Kurigram, in three days.

BAGERHAT: Two motorcyclists were killed in a road accident in Mollahat Upazila of the district on Sunday morning.

The accident took place in Rajhat area on the Dhaka-Khulna highway of the upazila at around 9:15 am.
The deceased were identified as Rana Sheikh, 25, son of Liakat Sheikh, and Amit Sardar, 24, son of Raja Sardar. Both of them were residents of Mejhora Gaola Village in the upazila.

Quoting locals, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Mollahat Highway Police Station (PS) Sheikh Nuruzzaman Chunnu said that a motorcycle overturned on the Dhaka-Khulna highway in Rajhat area in the morning after losing its control over the steering, which left both the motorcycle driver and its pillion rider critically injured.

Later on, local people rescued the injured and took them to Mollahat Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor declared the duo dead, said the OC.

Being informed, police recovered the bodies and handed those over to their families upon completion of legal procedures, the police official added.

PATIYA, CHATTOGRAM: Three people including man and his son were killed as a lorry and CNG-run auto-rickshaw collided head-on in Patiya Upazila of the district on Saturday afternoon.

The accident took place in Shantirhat area on the Chattogram-Cox's Bazar highway under the upazila at around 4 pm.

The deceased were identified as Shreekanta Dhar, 65, his son Litu Kumar Dhar, 30, residents of Paschim Goirla area under Dholghat union in the upazila, and CNG-run auto-rickshaw driver Ali Azgar, 30, a resident of Jongal Khain Union in the upazila. 

Quoting locals, Sub-Inspector (SI) of Patiya Highway PS Moniruzzama said that a lorry and a CNG-run auto-rickshaw were collided head-on in Shantirhat area on the Chattogram-Cox's Bazar highway of the upazila in the afternoon, which left one person dead on the spot and two others seriously injured.

The injured persons were then rescued and taken to local hospital, where the on-duty doctor declared the both dead. Being informed, police recovered the bodies.

However, necessary steps would be taken in this connection, the SI added.
 
FULBARI, KURIGRAM: A college employee was killed and another injured in a road accident in Fulbari Upazila of the district on Friday noon.

The accident took place in Chararpar area on the Fulbari-Balarhat road under the upazila at around 2:30 pm.

The deceased was identified as Nazir Hossain, 55, a fourth-grade employee of Fulbari Women's Degree College and a resident of Kabirmamud Village in the upazila. 

The injured person is Jayakanta, 30, son of Dinesh Chandra, a resident of Uttar Shimulbari Village under the same upazila.

According to police and local sources, Nazir Hossain was heading towards Balarhat from Fulbari at noon riding on an auto-rickshaw. On the way, the auto-rickshaw collided head-on with a speedy motorcycle coming from the opposite direction in Chararpar area at around 2:30 pm, which left Nazir Hossain and motorcyclist Jayakanta seriously injured. 

Locals then rescued the injured and rushed them to Fulbari Upazila Health Complex, where on-duty doctor Homayra declared Nazir Hossain dead. 

Due to the severity of his injuries, Jayakanta was referred to Rangpur Medical College Hospital for better treatment.

Fulbari PS OC Nawabur Rahman confirmed the incident, adding that legal action will be taken upon receiving a complaint.
