RAMGATI, LAXMIPUR, Aug 19: Three members of a family were murdered by a young man over a family dispute in Ramgati Upazila of the district on Saturday evening.
The tragic incident took place in the house of one Siddu Mistry in Ward No. 8 under Char Poragacha Union in the upazila at around 7:30 pm.
The deceased were identified as Sakina Begum, 40, her son Mahin, 7, and granddaughter Faria Akter, 5.
However, locals apprehended the accused Md Ripon, 26, step-son of Sakina Begum, and handed him over to law enforcement authorities.
According to police and local sources, Siddu Mistry, from Bhola District, got married twice. He has two sons from his first wife and a son and daughter from his second wife Sakina Begum, with whom he currently resides in Ramgati Upazila of Laxmipur. After neglecting his first wife and children, Siddu secretly sold their house in Bhola, which enraged his son Ripon. Following this, Ripon came to visit his father's house at Ramgati three days back. During his stay at the house, he slaughtered his stepmother on Saturday evening. At that time, he also murdered his step-brother and niece as they saw him committing the crime.
Humayun Kabir Sabuj, member of Ward No. 8 under Charporagacha Union Parishad, confirmed the detention of the accused.
Officer-in-Charge of Ramgati Police Station Mosleh Uddin said that after being informed, police have sent to the scene, and a murder case will be filed in this regard.
