Separate courts on Tuesday sentenced 10 people to death and five others to life-term imprisonment in different murdered cases in two districts - Rajshahi and Naogaon.
RAJSHAHI: The Rajshahi Divisional Speedy Trial Tribunal on Tuesday sentenced nine people to death and five others to life-term imprisonment for killing a man in Pabna about two years back.
Rajshahi Divisional Speedy Trial Tribunal Judge Muhammad Mohiduzzaman found the accused guilty in the murder charge and handed down the verdict.
The convicts who were given death sentence are: Alauddin Malitha, Ripon Khan, Swapan Malitha, Ashique Malitha, Rakib Malitha, Yeasin Arafat, Ranju Malitha, Jony Malitha and Alif Malitha.
The lifers are: Dulal Malitha, Raju Malitha, Aynal Malitha, Sanju Malitha and Belal Hossain.
Public Prosecutor (PP) of the tribunal Entajul Haque confirmed the matter.
The PP said seven people were also acquitted by the court as the allegations brought against them could not be proven during the prosecution.
According to the prosecution, the accused in accomplice with each other chopped Saider Rahman Malitha to death in Char Bangabari area under Sadar Upazila of Pabna District on September 9, 2022.
A murder case was lodged with Pabna Sadar Police Station (PS) on the same day. Upon completion of the investigation, police submitted the charge-sheet to the court accusing 21 people.
Following this, judge of the Rajshahi Divisional Speedy Trial Tribunal pronounced the verdict on Tuesday after examining the case records and taking depositions of the witnesses.
NAOGAON: A court in the district on Tuesday sentenced a man to death for killing a woman and her 10-year-old son in the town in 2012.
Additional District and Sessions Judge Md Moklesur Rahman handed down the verdict.
The condemned convict is Sumon Sarker alias Titu, an inhabitant of Narayanganj District.
Additional PP of the court Md Shamsur Rahman confirmed the matter.
According to the prosecution, the convict Sumon Sarker killed Nita Sarker Pinki, 25, and her son Joytu Sarker Turja, 10, by a sharp weapon over a previous enmity in Naogaon District Town on December 17 in 2012.
Following the murder, Pinki's husband Joyonto Kumar Sarker, who was a bank employee, filed a case with Naogaon Sadar Model PS the next day. Sumon Sarker was a relative of Joyonto Kumar Sarker.
After investigation, police submitted the charge-sheet to the court on June 15 in 2013 accusing Sumon Sarker.
Following this, the court pronounced the verdict on Tuesday after examining the case records and taking depositions of the witnesses.
