The Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre said on Thursday that heavy rainfall in the northeastern part of the country, its adjacent upstream areas, and the southeastern and eastern parts, including the adjacent upstream regions, might decrease in the next 24 hours, leading to an improvement in the flood situation.

The FFWC reported that the ongoing flood situation in the low-lying areas of Moulvibazar, Habiganj, Feni, Comilla and Chittagong had slightly worsened due to heavy and extremely heavy rainfall.
According to its notification, the past 24 hours saw heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in the Indian Tripura border areas of the eastern districts of Comilla, Brahmanbaria and Feni, as well as in the internal basins of Tripura state.

As a result, the flood situation in the low-lying areas of Moulvibazar, Habiganj, Feni, Comilla and Chittagong districts slightly worsened.

Citing weather agencies, the notification said the likelihood of heavy rainfall in the northeastern part of the country and its nearby upstream areas might decrease in the next 24 hours.

During this time, the flood situation in the low-lying areas near the Manu, Khowai and Dhalai rivers in Moulvibazar and Habiganj in the northeastern region could initially stabilize and later improve.

The notification further stated that the likelihood of heavy rainfall in the southeastern and eastern parts of the country, as well as in adjacent upstream areas, might decrease in the next 24 hours.

During this period, the flood situation in the low-lying areas of the Muhuri, Feni, Gumti and Halda rivers in Feni, Comilla and Chittagong may initially stabilize and then improve.

The FFWC also reported that the water levels of the Brahmaputra, Jamuna and Ganges rivers were decreasing, while the water level of the Padma River remained stable.

It added that in the next 48 hours, water levels in these rivers might further decrease.

Meanwhile, the water levels of the Surma and Kushiyara rivers in the northeastern region of the country were rising, and this might continue for the next 24 hours, it said.
