At least 15 shops were completely gutted in a fire that broke out at Gouripur upazila in Mymensingh district early Friday.

The fire originated from a tea stall at Shamganj Bazar in the upazila around 3:30 AM.

Locals said they discovered the tea stall on fire, and the flames quickly spread to adjacent shops.

On information, firefighters from Netrokona's Purbadhola and Mymensingh's Gouripur Fire Service stations rushed to the spot and douse the blaze with the help of the locals.

The fire destroyed 15 shops along with cash and goods.

The fire service official assumed that the fire might have originated from an electric short circuit.

Md Shakil Ahmed, Gouripur Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO), confirmed the matter.
